Heart Transplant

Heart transplantation is treatment for end stage heart failure. End stage heart failure is when the heart is unable to effectively pump blood to the rest of the body resulting in daily, debilitation symptoms including shortness of breath, fatigue with minimal exertion, and leg swelling. Patients often require multiple hospital admissions for fluid management. Patient’s being considered for heart transplantation undergo an extensive workup to evaluate their candidacy. The surgery involves removal of most of the old heart and insertion of a donor heart. Patients will require life long treatment with anti-rejection medications, as well as regular checkups and biopsies to monitor for signs of rejection.

We are one of two groups in San Diego performing heart transplants. We have two advanced heart failure/transplantation trained heart surgeons on staff. If you are experiencing end stage heart failure and are looking for treatment options, please contact us.
